This watercolor is from my 'Italian' Sketchbook, a small, handmade, leather-bound pocket sketchbook I always bring to record my trips and memories of Italy. The view was of a canal close to where I stayed in the Cannaregio District. This canal connects to the Canale di Cannaregio, which is one of the most important waterways in the system of over 150 canals. Many waterbus lines use it to run a circular route around the city, and airport boats also bring visitors from the Leonardo Da Vinci-Fiumicino airport. Canals are synonymous with Venice, to the point that any city or town with a network of canals is often promoted as "The Venice of - (you name it!)"
