The views up to Mount Evans are breathtaking, with alpine lakes, massive granite walls and strands of twisted, ancient pine - home to marmots, mountain goats and bighorn sheep. These Rocky Mountain high peaks can also be very unpredictable and dramatic. The day I visited was a sunny pleasant day when suddenly dark menacing grey and purple clouds formed and the sky turned to an luminous blue and yellow ochre color as a gathering storm swept by.
