This watercolor is from my 'Italian' Sketchbook, a small, handmade, leather-bound pocket sketchbook I always bring to record my trips and memories of Italy. The painting depicts the Cathedral of Ravenna, which was constructed in the Baroque style between 1734 and 1745. The cathedral was built on the site of the Basilica Ursiana, which dates back to the early 5th century. Emperor Honorius ordered the construction of the ancient cathedral in 402 when he moved the capital of the Western Roman Empire from Milan to Ravenna.
