In the tradition of great painting, my work is a quest to define the sublime, the ineffable, harmony and wholeness. Recently, I have returned to my first love, a passion for light, nature and landscape, a subject I have come home to time and again in some form or another during my career, combined with the intersection between my humanity and my concern for the environment .
In these new works, I begin with sketches and take photographs to assemble digital compositions, manipulating images and color. These initial compositions are then taken to a second stage interpreting these digital images into tactile mixed-media paintings either on canvas or paper using layers of watercolor, acrylic, crayon, pastel and oil paints. This layering technique produces an intense vibrancy and energy. Finally, I incorporate expressive line with textural elements to enhance the work, always with the overarching intent of creating aesthetically pleasing and thoughtful art.
